Matrimonial Cake

Filling:
1 lb dates chopped
1 c water
Lemon juice and zest (optional)
Cook on medium heat until soft and water is absorbed. Remove from heat.

Crumble Mix:
1 ½ c flour
1 ½ c rolled oats
1 ½ c brown sugar
1 c butter.
Work butter into dry ingredients until crumbly.

Pat ½ of crumble into an 9 x 9 pan. Spread filling and top with other ½ of crumble.
Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes.
